Coordinator: Familienakademie Mühlviertel, AUSTRIA

The Familienakademie Mühlviertel works in the field of adult education, especially with parents and families.  At the moment Familienakademie Mühlviertel runs 17 parental child centres with 85 000 contacts to participants every year. It organizes playing groups for children, open meetings for young parents, inputs and workshops with questions of education, prevention of addiction and force, themes for fathers, intercultural groups and many things more. These offers are especially suited for parents.

The parental child centres offer the possibility to exchange experiences, to acquire key competences and learn in groups. There are also topics like integration, migration and prevention presented and discussed. Activities especially with fathers, games without winners or losers, a project named "family and neighbourhood (FUN)", activities for social justice etc. are carried out with a big success. It is possible for everybody to take part in the activities; especially disadvantaged people are targeted by the offered program.

The Familienakademie Mühlviertel organizes family weekends for Austrian and migrant families together. This is a very good exchange of culture, problems and different ways of living.
The "Junior-Kreativ-Werkstatt" is a program for children and parents in the holidays. Children learn languages and different cultures. This increases individual chances of children in life and facilitates integration into society.

Bayrakli Halk Egitimi Merkezi, TURKEY

Bayraklı Halk Egitimi Merkezi (HEM) is one of the public adult education centres in Izmir, which is the third largest city of Turkey.
The main aim is to organize courses and activities for social and cultural development of people, to help citizens to pass from consuming to producing and to support them with tolerance and respect.
They provide literacy courses available for illiterate and disadvantaged citizens.
We provide first level, second level and advanced level courses and exams for our citizens who have migrated from these regions.

Recently, over 100.000 refugees from Syria have come to Izmir.
These people had to leave their lives in their homeland and have only brought their hopes for future with them.  They are struggling in a new culture without knowing anything about it. It is really hard for them to obtain basic needs for their families.
Therefore they need urgent help to establish new lives. The key strategy here lies in the hands of local authorities. Many precautions have been taken on this issue in Turkey on national and local levels. In Izmir, authorities have formed some committees to solve refugees' problems. One of them is the committee of education issue of Syrian refugees.

As the refugees are quite disadvantaged in terms of jobs in our society, we believe we can also make use of the staff who teach vocational and technical classes for both men and women. Even folk dance, music and other hobby classes help them socialize andintegrate themselves in to the society much more easily.

Studiefrämjandet i Uppsala län, SWEDEN

Studiefrämjandet is one of the largest study associations for adult education in Sweden (Studiefrämjandet i Uppsala län, is a part of it). It works mainly in the field of non-formal life-long learning. It has been part of the tradition of non-formal adult education - folkbildning - in Sweden since our foundation in 1959. It organizes study circles, cultural events, seminars and projects in all of Sweden´s municipalities. Everyone is welcome to study with Studiefrämjandet.

It has a strong commitment to socially and culturally disadvantaged groups in society and to groups with special needs such as immigrants, disabled people and the unemployed.

Since many years Studiefrämjandet makes study circles for migrant people in different places. This is a very good method to explain rules and habits of Swedish culture to other people. With simple methods of illustrated cards nearly without language the Swedish life is represented and brought in a very comprehensive way to migrants.
We lead centres of adult education in some different parts of Uppsala.
